Saint Thomas

also: Sankt Thomas, Thomas, doubting Thomas

The apostle who refused to believe in the Resurrection until he touched Christ's wounds (John 20:25-27), earning the epithet 'Doubting Thomas'. In Trakl's Mankind (Gedichte, section 29), Thomas dips his hand into the wound-mark at the Last Supper gathering — here faith and doubt merge in a vision of blood and bread.
