Mirabell Gardens
Mirabell
also: Mirabell, Mirabellgarten, Schloß Mirabell
The baroque palace and gardens in central Salzburg, commissioned in 1606 by Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau. Trakl grew up in Salzburg and knew these gardens well; in section 5 of Gedichte ('Music in the Mirabell'), the garden becomes a Symbolist theatre of marble ancestors, a faun, and encroaching dark.
Reading notes

The Mirabell Palace and its baroque gardens in Salzburg, a city where Trakl spent formative years. The gardens are famed for their fountains, statuary, and formal plantings, and recur in Trakl's poetry as a site of melancholy beauty.
